Well this week has been a difficult one – once again. I have been suffering with a nasty cold; although I swear that it is a flu. Claire tells me that if I had the flu I wouldn't be able to get out of bed. I told her that I am struggling on because of all the responsibility I have.

According to Claire's friend who is a doctor, the litmus test for flu is to tell the sick person that they have just won the lottery and see the reaction. If they can't even raise a smile, then they have flu... I am sorry, but I don't care how ill I am. If I knew I had won £7 million, I would be jumping around like a looney, regardless.

But even if it is just a cold, it has been the worst one I have had in a long while. Started as a serious sore throat, moved on to the super nasty cold and now I have the recovery period of feeling slightly sick, woozy and lethargic. I even lost my appetite, which is practically unheard of. I think I need to re-feed myself to get my energy back.

So the top flat has been even more of a nightmare than usual this week. I have spent parts of each day lying on my back in the empty flat staring at the ceiling, followed by a quick burst of putting together kitchen cabinets and a little more tea. The heating is currently off in the flat as well, so it has been really cold and uncomfortable. There isn't even any furniture to sit on. I should have stayed home really.

Still, some progress has been made, if at a very slow pace. Half the kitchen has been installed and the electrics have been done. The walls are smooth and ready for painting, which will be done after everything else.

Next week, assuming I am all recovered, will be time for the bathroom suite. I don't fancy getting that up the stairs and am kind of pleased that I have left it till the last minute. It is a plastic bath at least, so it won't be quite so heavy. Once that is in, I can make a start on the tiling of the kitchen and bathroom and then get going on the flooring.

I have arranged for the carpets to be laid in two weeks time, so the painting needs to be done by then. Fingers crossed about that as a paint disaster on brand new carpet would really make my day!

Things at home have been fine. Claire is about to start her online landscaping course and is asking if she can work with me to get some experience every now and then this year. I agreed that she could, but not on a regular basis. And I pointed out I will not be paying her for her efforts. She thought that as she is setting up her own business she should be treated as any other subby. The perks of marriage have to extend to the workplace in my opinion...

So we will see how that goes. A recipe for disaster, I am guessing!
