The Railings on my Deck are in need of repair. There are Cracks in the wood, some appear quite deep. What is the best method to restore them : Do I strip/sand off the old Stain, use a Wood Filler, then a sealer before re-staining? What type of Sealer is recommended before I restain? As you can tell,I am a Novice to DIY;my partner says I need to
be able to repair/restore anything around the house that needs fixing;but I am definitely not a Handywoman;so any advice will be most welcome!

Hey,
You could try Net-trol. Brush it on, leave for 20 mins and then power wash off. It should take the old stain off easily.
Or we often just re-stain over the top!
Not sure about the best filler but it's a good idea to get some small clamps to clamp the railings whilst the filler dries and hopefully that'll make the cracks smaller and better sealed.
We have yellow ones, plastic, with black rubber pads. Not sure where they're from Screwfix has them. Think they're called Ratchet clamps.

does this pressure wash not spoil the texture of the wall because I have painted them recently.

Once you pressure wash the railing and get them back to normal, a really good paint is the surface guardian floor paint. It comes in a variety of colors and will not chip or peel for at least 20 years. They have a photo gallery and video on their site telling about the product. Here is a link to the site,
