Hi all,

I'm stripping away painted woodchip paper from my bathroom walls.

I've stripped back one wall and discovered that half has plaster over the plasterboard, the other has just been papered over several times.

I'm now left with the dilema of knowing wether to strip away the remaining plaster, so the wall is stripped back to the plasterboard.

I think I'm all so suffering from heat stroke as it's like a sauna in there and I'm even finding it hard to type or make any sense.

If someone could share there knowledge I'd be so greatful.

I've attached a picture

Thanks in advance.

Bradley

Hi Bradley
Yep that looks like a right old mess and cant say I blame you for not wanting to strip it all. Couple of options I can think of.
1) Depending on the set up and whether theres enough space you could think about re plaster boarding over the whole lot. It really depends on whether it would bring the walls out too far behind the bath and wc etc but it would be quite a quick way to get a nice new flat surface to work on
2) How about just getting off the loose stuff then sealing it and skimming the whole lot. Provided you seal it all properly it should skim ok and agian you'd then have good surfaces all round.
Failing this then it's going to be a question of stripping all the paper (I know that's not a good thought

Hi farthing, Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I'll probably go with the 2nd option. Do you know what kind of sealant I should use..? Brad

Hi Bradley - no problem. I'd just thin down unibond with water and apply that to the whole lot. As far as I know that's what most plasterers use. Tip for you: use an old roller to apply (bit messy but so much quicker than with a brush)
