Connecting the supply cable at the ceiling rose
Feed another suitable cable through the ceiling to the new light position. Label this ‘supply’.
Feed both cables through the backplate of the new ceiling rose and screw the backplate of the rose to the ceiling.
Strip and prepare the conductors of the supply cable. Connect the red one to the terminal block marked ‘L’. Connect the black to the terminal block marked ‘N’. Connect the green and yellow sleeved conductor to the terminal marked with the earth symbol but only secure loosely for the moment as another earth will also need to be connected here.

Connecting the switch cable at the ceiling rose
Strip and prepare the switch cable. Connect the red to the terminal block marked ‘L’. Tag the black with a piece of red insulation tape indicating that it is actually the live coming back from the switch and connect it to the switch terminal.
Connect the green and yellow sleeved conductor to the earth terminal.

Lampholder connection
Prepare and connect a lampholder to a suitable length of flex. Feed the other end of the flex through the ceiling rose cover and connect to the flex terminals. Brown (L) to the outer terminal next to the switch return conductor. Blue (N) to the other outer terminal next to the supply cable neutral. Green / yellow (earth) if applicable, to the earth terminal.
Double check all your connections are correct, secure and have no exposed conductor showing. Fit the ceiling rose cover.

Connecting to the lighting circuit supply
The other end of the supply cable can now be connected to the system.
Take the cable to the newly fitted junction box in the existing lighting circuit. Strip and prepare the conductors.
Connect the red to the terminal for live in and out. Connect the black to the terminal for neutral in and out. Connect the green and yellow sleeved conductor to the earth terminal.
Finally make a thorough check of ALL your connections and make sure all covers are replaced.

Once you are sure that all work has been completed correctly, replace the fuse for the circuit, switch the power back on, and test.
