Top tips for selling your home quickly

Don’t leave the DIY behind

It’s tempting when you’re looking to move home to forget all about the little jobs that need finishing – fixing that cabinet with the wonky door, weeding the garden, re-grouting the bathroom or repainting the skirting boards, but these little jobs can all put off a potential buyer looking for houses for sale. Not only that but if the buyer requests a full survey of your house, all of those unfinished jobs will be duly noted and you might be forced to lower the price of your home.

Keep it neutral

If you’ve ever watch any property programme on TV you will know that having a neutral colour scheme is the best thing that you can do for a property. If your home is full of bold, bright colours and in-your-face prints then it might be worth considering covering your walls with a lick of cream or beige paint – it will help any potential buyers imagine themselves living in your home without

De-clutter and de-personalise

There’s nothing like piles of DVDs, overflowing laundry baskets and kid’s toys littering the floor to put you off a house, so make sure you have a good tidy before letting people have a look around. Try to clear out the clutter and de-personalise the rooms by hiding away your personal belongings, as it will help your potential buyer envision themselves living in your house.

Keep it clean

It might sound obvious but there’s nothing more off-putting than a dirty house. Grubby kitchens, mouldy bathrooms, dusty furniture and dirty carpets might only be superficial but they will still stop people putting an offer in. Have a good clean of the house; re-grout the bathroom if it’s mouldy, get a professional carpet clean if your carpets are old and grubby and make sure everything is clean, dust-free and smells fresh.

Distinguish your rooms

When potential buyers come to see a three bedroom house, they can get confused by a two bedroom house with a study, or a two bedroom house with a ‘junk’ room. If it’s possible make sure that you are using the rooms as what they are marketed to be.
