B&Q have announced that they are to sponsor the Ideal Home Show Refit as designed by TV architect George Clarke, who is an ambassador for the DIY store. But it is not just any home which will undergo a retrofit; it is the current home of Coronation Street longstayers Ken and Deidre Barlow.
The point of the exercise is to show visitors how easy it is to bring an older home up to modern standards, both saving money and cutting down of the energy expenditure of the home.
Visitors will be able to see the Barlow's home both before and after it has been modernised. The additions will be timber floors from sustainable forests, underfloor heating, eco-wallpaper and low energy light bulbs among other eco-friendly products.
George Clarke will be on hand to answer questions at the show. He points out that the display is simply showing that even the older terrace homes common in the UK can benefit from retro-fitted products and that most of these products can be bought from local DIY stores.
B&Q is also giving away tickets to the Ideal Home Show via their Twitter and Facebook pages.
