Research from Gocompare.com has found that 74% of people in the UK will undertake some sort of garden project this year and may spend as much as £6.8bn.12% of those who replied to the survey said they would completely redesign their garden and many will do so rather than moving or going on holiday.
24% of respondents said they were worried about the safety of items they leave in their gardens and 7% were undertaking work to make their garden more secure. 17% would even be replacing fencing or gates. 25% of people said they have had items stolen from their garden or they have been damaged by people who manage to get in over fences or unsecured gates. Some people have even had items such as hot tubs, trampolines and patio heaters stolen from their outside space.
John Miles from Gocompare has commented that while a fortune may be spent on gardens this year, home-owners need to make more effort to secure the area and to ensure they have adequate insurance.
