Advice for Home Owners Hit by Floods

The Federation of Master Builders is warning home-owners hit by the recent floods to take care when employing a builder to carry out any repair work. The FMB say that unscrupulous builders may prey on people during times of stress and may take advantage of the fact that people need their homes repaired as quickly as possible.

These builders may ask for payment upfront and may carry out incompetent work.

The FMB recommend using a builder which has been used by a family member, getting references from previous clients and using a contract. They also suggest getting at least three quotes and to pay in stages – not upfront.
