The great weather experienced by most of the country throughout June has led to an increase in DIY retail sales according to latest reports from the British Retail Consortium.
Retail transactions in general rose by 1.2% compared to the previous month and 1.4% compared to this time last year.
The BRC also reported increased sales of televisions in June due to the World Cup plus increases in sales of garage doors and garden buildings. Despite this, sales of tools dropped as people spent their weekends watching football rather than doing a spot of Home Improvement.
DIY stores did record increased sales of barbecues, patio furniture and outdoor toys, however it has been suggested that these good sales may not last with the increase in VAT just around the corner. The BRC have said that the impact of the budget has affect confidence in all sectors but the actual impact won't be felt until all the measures come in.
