Wickes Voted Country's Favourite

DIY store Wickes has been voted at the country's favourite by a Verdict Research poll. More than 6,000 people were asked to name their favourite retail stores in a number of categories. Wickes came out top in the home improvement section.

Neil Saunders from Verdict Research has said that the stores which offered the best value for money and which concentrated of giving customers the lowest price seemed to do well in the poll.

The matter of a thick pen line has led to a £400,000 legal bill for two homeowners in Hertfordshire. The Cooper's and the Silverman's live in adjoining properties and had common ownership until 2006. At that time part of the original property was sold off and a small scale plan was drawn.

Wire Mesh on Windows May Present a Risk to Criminals

Shed owners are being warned that taking steps to protect their tools and garden equipment may lead to claims for compensation from criminals. Police in Kent and Surrey have seen a rise in homeowners protecting their sheds with a wire mesh across the windows due to an increase in shed burglaries in recent months. They are now saying that the wire may present a risk to criminals who are trying to enter the shed and that this may lead to claims for compensation if an injury occurs.

Churchill Home Insurance have revealed that women will spend an average of £146 to rectify a DIY disaster, while men will spend just £90 on one of their mistakes.

Women Use DIY To Express Their Creativity

A study by power tools manufacturer Bosch has shown that women are much more likely to indulge in a spot of DIY than previously thought. In fact, 78% say that they enjoy using power tools and improving their homes. 72% of those questioned said that they make better DIYers because they have more patience than men and 48% thought that they were more creative than their other half, particularly when it comes to interior design.
