I get my hair cut at a place called Macabe’s, near Uncle George’s shop. There I am, waiting my turn and reading the Mirror, when we hear a loud crash out the back. The shelves in the storage cupboard have collapsed and old Richard Macabe got nasty cut on his arm for his troubles.

A sweet old Cockney woman whose son comes into Uncle George’s shop needed some work done at her place. Peter was having a chin wag with George and mentioned that his mum wanted some planters for her garden. George gives him my name, of course, and I went round one afternoon to check out the job.

Right. Jobs have dwindled away to a trickle, and the wife’s getting tired of me asking what I can do to help around the house. She says, “Why don’t you go and write down those stories you always tell at the pub?” So here we are. Welcome to my blog. We all need a little sunshine |

Osric is the wife’s cat, and a cute little thing, too. He was all curled up one morning, taking a nap in the sunlight coming through the back window. Can you believe it? Sunshine, in London, in December. It lasted a good twenty minutes, which was enough to give me an idea.
